I see you folks were talking about the word "demur."

That's a verb.

Demurrer is the noun, at least in legal parlance.

It's used as a challenge to the complaint in CA.

The federal system uses motions to dismiss on various
grounds instead of demurrers.

I suspect that romance novels use "demure" to describe
the heroine, at least at the outset of the novel. Then it's
an adjective.

She would, also, at least initially, demur to
the advances of the hero, who does not appear to be a hero at first,
but manages to evolve by the last page.

You now know everything you need to know about romance novels....LOL
