ANWAR is an "issue" only. The left has staked it out and created an emotional aura around it - devoid of facts.

Again - the stupid unions line up with Dem candidates who actively work against their best interests. Democratic policies applied will hurt the auto worker. Democratic policies applied hurt the construction trades.

Education to Democrats is like a cross to a vampire. They are totally dependent on "aura" issues without substance.

Tha reason most Alaskans are for drilling is because many of them go up there for the reason of simple greed. They get higher wages up there due to the cold conditions and they are employees of big oil or big timber, directly or indirectly. In other words, Alaska has attracted a certain type of worker in the business of plundering nature.

ANWAR and other nature preserves are federal public land, not Alaskan property. The raping of Alaska is going full-hilt. Despite the old sense that its wilderness was infinite, it's not. There is already a shortage of salmon and other fish up there which used to be the greatest fish supply in the world. Entire old growth forests are disappearing. ANWAR is a treasure not just for this century but for future centuries. If you harvest the place now, you lose it forever. And don't believe the lies of the oil companies about their "soft footprints" or whatever. They will say anything just to get permission to start drilling. Their environmental reports in the past have been bald-faced lies.

Besides, the Kerry-McCain CAFE standards bill would give us more extra oil than drilling the entire state of Alaska. So why did the Bushies work to defeat it? And, nobody knows how much oil is in ANWAR except a few who are privvy to a secret test drilling report. Anyone who tells you there's X amount of oil there is a liar.

Finally, several key GOP moderates like Norm Coleman only got elected because they promised to stand up to the oil companies in ANWAR. So far the GOP moderates have stopped the drilling. Those GOP senators need to be held to their promises.
