Sure, it's free though constrained by circumstances of having power hungry and violent Baathist and militant Islamic forces within it. But real life has circumstantial constraints.

I recall France did come in and help the American rebels remove British military forces once. Of course, they had their own reasons for doing so. Would Washington's army have been able to prevail against the British eventually. It's debatable. I'd guess no.

I am amazed you think anything the UN does could be relevant, given what you've said about it in the past. Trying to butter both sides of the bread? Of course you are. I put that in for your benefit and considered adding something like "for whatever that's worth".
