I do perceive that I am more offended by the events in Abu Ghraib than many whose politics I am otherwise more or less compatible with.

I recognize that many who call themselves conservatives only give lip service to human rights, and only for those who closely resemble themselves. As do many who call themselves liberals.

I see, you have better morals than most liberals and most conservatives. Congratulations. Where can I get some of this moral superiority and certainty?

Sure didn't seem like you had much in the way of high morals when you were making very putrid jokes about the girl who lost her life in front of an Israeli bulldozer.

.. as I posted at the time, everybody who was active duty military and everybody in the Bush administration reacted pretty much as I did -- it was a black eye for the country and the military, and would give our enemies much rhetorical ammunition against us, and would be a boost to recruitment
of terrorists, causing grave risk of harm to our brave, honorable men and women serving without stooping to such repulsive behavior.

I have no quarrel with what you say here. Of course, Abu Ghraib and the question of whether the war was justified are two very different issues. Abu Ghraib is certainly being used as rhetorical ammunition against the Bush administration.

Thanks for that post.
Here in Denmark the newspapers to the right of center have been notable for their lack of analysis of the moral aspects of the Iraq war and Denmark's participation. The newspapers at the center of the political spectrum have had a bit more analysis but generally the debate has been left to those papers on the political left. Especially the problem of human rights and POWs has been neglected.
There seems to be a much more active debate in the US.
