Before-The-Bell: Veritas Falls Sharply

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Shares of Veritas Software fell nearly 22 percent on Tuesday before the market opened, after the software company said it will post weaker-than-expected second-quarter results, citing sluggish sales.

Shares of Veritas fell to $20.75 on the INET electronic brokerage, down from its close of $26.55 on Nasdaq on Friday.

Shares of Conexant Systems Inc. (NasdaqNM:CNXT - News) were also lower before the bell after the communications chip maker cut its quarterly earnings forecast on weak demand for wireless local area network products in the face of cheaper Taiwanese competition.

Shares of the New Jersey company fell to $3.01 on INET electronic brokerage, down from a close of $4.08 on Nasdaq on Friday.
