yeah i guess you're right:

"S&P 500 futures increased 39% to 161 million contracts last year, while pit trading in the S&P 500 “big” contract actually fell 15% to 20 million contracts.

so volume for minis is about 8x while contract size is 1/5 of the large one - so does this automatically guarantee that trading programs are keyed off the minis?
