An interesting quote; suggesting, as I've read elsewhere, that under the most critical political/ideological microscope democracy itself is seriously flawed and perhaps less consistent with the notion of freedom than one might be inclined to think. One - by whom I mean, I - might certainly opine that a democratic system allows groups and individuals whose platforms and efforts are, at their core, inconsistent with principles of liberty to derive legitimacy merely by appearing on a ballot.

And, mechanically...the notion of a system wherein, hypothetically, if 51% of the people were to vote to abolish freedom, they might instantaneously enslave the other 49%...isn't terribly promising.

Democracy probably is, as it has been called (and I'll paraphrase): the worst solution, except for everything else.

What other possibilities are there? Ideas, anyone?

Freely-trading, interactive municipal-capitalistic fiefdoms?
