Have you read anything about the difference between human and computer chess players? Digital computers have to go through all options to find the best move, at each turn. Human beings are endowed with a pattern recognition ability that enables them to "intuit" the flow of play, presuming they are well- stocked with knowledge of the game, including experience, and to "sense" the correct move. That is why it was so unusual for Big Blue to beat Kasparov. In the same way, computers so far cannot surpass three year olds in speech, because of the subtleties of pattern recognition that human beings are capable of in understanding one another. I am sure that Bush listens to the data and arguments of his advisors, and thinks about issues, but, in the end, he does not run an algorithm, but gets the answer in his gut, through this human gift of subtle pattern recognition.
