I have no idea why he is selling but, strategically, it is good for shareholders IMO. If and when ORCL takes over PSFT, IBM was planning a FUD campaign against ORCL and specifically Ellison asking customers do they want their companies most vital assets in his hands. Makes no sense to me but that is the plan according to trial documents. With Ellison having less control over the company it gives it a more corporate image and should take this type of negative marketing off of the table.

As someone said, it is not because he needs the money. Although, the boat and the Malibu properties are adding up to a nice sum.
