Gersh,

Been using a similar strategy over the past 1-2 years with relatively neutral stocks. I don't hedge my short options with longs. I start with short strangles OTM if the options are more than a few months out and slowly profit take and tighten as the expiration approaches until I'm left with short straddles. Been doing this with DELL, INTC, CSCO, MSFT. Dell has been an excellent candidate around a strike of 35 the past many months.
