Here it is Wednesday morning and I'm probably adding flames to a fire that burned out a few days back.

I thought it was done, too, but I found myself responding to one more comment this morning after having ignored one the day before so I guess I'm fanning, too. This subject keeps coming up so I don't suppose it matters what we do.

However, the larger issue, at least to me, is that language with serious moral import is being degraded.

I take your point. The larger issue in my mind is that we are constrained from solving problems if people of good will cannot discuss them without someone being offended or without fearing that they will be accused of bigotry.

"I don't consider, what I've now read of the Nader quote, to be anti-semitic, at least not in the historical sense of that term. But, if one created a continuum of anti-semitism in quotes, the Nader one would be slightly more so than the one from Juan Cole also cited.

However, the larger issue, at least to me, is that language with serious moral import is being degraded. "

I am ready to pounce John but before i do one question. What "language with serious moral import is being degraded? "

It seems to me that you may be of the view that right wing nazi anti-semitism is bad because nazis are bad but when the left gets into the game what they say is to be forgiven or forgotten or minimized because their motivation is pristine? So forgive moore for his goebellian excesses because he is good guy from a working class background? Someone might have said that about hitler in his earlier years. And there is Uncle Joe to contend with.
