FTC reopens case vs. Unocal alleging illegal monopoly (UCL)
WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) --The Federal Trade Commission reinstated charges that against Unocal (UCL) Wednesday alleging the firm defrauded California regulators and illegally created a monopoly over a certain reformulated gas technology in the 1990s. The ruling reversed a previous decision in favor of the firm. FTC Chairman Timothy Muris moved to reopen the case against Unocal for further fact gathering. "Depending on the factual record to be developed, Unocal may or may not be subjecting competitors and consumers to massive, anticompetitive royalties and increases in the price of gasoline based on an exercise of unlawfully obtained market power," the FTC said. Unocal shares fell 26 cents to trade at $38.26.

This is a big crock of horsesh*t
Isn't that want patents do by design: grant a monopoly?
