In discussing whether or not to go to war, lives were on the line either way. Our situation is much more that of a policeman who sees a suspect pull something out of his jacket that might be a gun, and has to decide whether or not to fire. One is under pressure to make a decision in a timely manner.

In comparing the war in Iraq and the policeman's dilemma, however, you might want to rethink the analogy.

The policeman would be like Iraq if the policeman saw the man pull something out of his pocket that might be a gun and then:

Pulled his gun and aimed it while the suspect yelled, "I don't have a gun."

But the policeman yelled back, "I can't take a chance."

So the suspect yelled, "Send someone to check my hands or even my pockets."

And the policeman did but the checker said, "I can't get a good look at his back left pocket. Give me a minute to get a better look."

So the suspect yelled, "This is ridiculous, I have no weapon."

But the policeman said, "I can't take all day here. Besides no one has proven he doesn't have a gun, or won't get one someday, and he looks like he wants to use one, and besides his family would be better off if he were dead and the wife could find a better husband for the kids and he has an apartment I'd like to rent myself."

So he shot and killed him. And later, when no gun was found, he nodded sagely and said that the suspect had time to throw the gun away before he died, and the suspect had been seen with a gun before, and a dog or large rat could have packratted the gun away so we'll never know what happened to that gun.

And one thing we know for sure; that suspect won't be killing any policemen. And from reading a long series of your posts, I'd guess that's the most important thing in your mind.

But I think all the other criminals are thinking; "I better get a gun cause if you can't fight back the cop will just do whatever he wants," and that the dead criminal's friends and family all bought guns and are eager to kill policemen.

You mean like when the NY police were so trigger happy that they put forty bullets into that poor African taxi driver after smashing into his home. And all because he did not fully understand them and reached to show his wallet and ID?
