Z, Bob Herbert did a great article two weeks ago about a doctor that the Bush administration had paraded around ...

I haven't seen the article, but it doesn't sound like anything that would warrant killing the whole issue of medical malpractice lawsuits running amok. After all, you can't deny that we live in a very lawsuit-happy nation.

Anyway, Bill Frist, a doctor himself, has made this one of his pet issues. Meanwhile, it's no surprise that the left has been cool toward this issue, because (a) it reduces the power of doctors and increases the power of government, and (b) the resulting increase in costs will push more and more people to support universal health care, which is one of the ultimate goals of the left in the first place.
