So it is about Moore, but too many Dems associate themselves with his message for their own good.

I gather you are not making the claim that Moore is "the left" or illustrative of "the left," which was Mike's point. I'm not particularly interested in those comments by Moore. I'm not asked to vote for him; I see no need to defend him; or attack him, for that matter.

However, just to take back a bit of that. My guess is that comment about Americans and dumbness is most likely about our willingness to vote for Bush in 2000. In which case, it's not anti-Americanism; just the kind of ironic statement the right has a hard time handling these days. What I read Moore as saying is that, as a country, we are better than that. We did a dumb thing but are capable of better.

Oh, those complicated statements.
