Ben, he has to use Jethro Bodean as a role model: "I'm gonna be a brain surgeon. Or a fry cook." Always in demand, those two professions. <G>

My very narrow and limited perspective on choosing engineering as a career: JUST DON'T DO IT!!

The Dilbert comic is fairly accurate at showing the difficulty of being an engineer. As an engineer most wind up being subservient to someone who "makes the decisions" based on the "big picture" -- that means ignoring the most obvious and pertinent technical, financial and economic information readily available and throwing darts or going on "gut feel." Big talkers and BS'ers who barely scraped through will get an MBA, schmooze the crap out of the right people -- INSTEAD of working -- they will get to the top and make decisions that are worse than the SOB they replace and make things more difficult than they were before. I've seen it happen and heard about it happening -- over and over.

If you are an engineer -- love your job -- think it is technically rewarding and can live on your pay --

That's cool -- you should be thankful -- you are lucky and way ahead of most engineers that are working in corporate America.
