If Saddam could be ousted, than Allawi must realize he too can be ousted. Allawi does not have a world-wide reputation as a thug like Saddam did. Allawi has not invaded any neighboring countries, is not under UN sanctions. So he has a moral standing which Saddam didn't. Overthrowing a villain like Saddam is one thing. Overthrowing a benign government is another.

Your points about early America are valid. We did have extraordinary leadership.

when you have a foisted "revolution"- or, let's be honest, an occupation with concomitant regime change, the results are bound to be less than optimal. I think the relevant question is whether the results will be less optimal than a continuation of Saddam's rule.
