Let me quote from the Patriot Act, since you're so fond of it:SEC. 102. SENSE OF CONGRESS CONDEMNING DISCRIMINATION AGAINST ARAB AND MUSLIM AMERICANS. (a) FINDINGS- Congress makes the following findings: (1) Arab Americans, Muslim Americans, and Americans from South Asia play a vital role in our Nation and are entitled to nothing less than the full rights of every American. (2) The acts of violence that have been taken against Arab and Muslim Americans since the September 11, 2001, attacks against the United States should be and are condemned by all Americans who value freedom. (3) The concept of individual responsibility for wrongdoing is sacrosanct in American society, and applies equally to all religious, racial, and ethnic groups. (4) When American citizens commit acts of violence against those who are, or are perceived to be, of Arab or Muslim descent, they should be punished to the full extent of the law. (5) Muslim Americans have become so fearful of harassment that many Muslim women are changing the way they dress to avoid becoming targets. (6) Many Arab Americans and Muslim Americans have acted heroically during the attacks on the United States, including Mohammed Salman Hamdani, a 23-year-old New Yorker of Pakistani descent, who is believed to have gone to the World Trade Center to offer rescue assistance and is now missing. (b) SENSE OF CONGRESS- It is the sense of Congress that-- (1) the civil rights and civil liberties of all Americans, including Arab Americans, Muslim Americans, and Americans from South Asia, must be protected, and that every effort must be taken to preserve their safety; (2) any acts of violence or discrimination against any Americans be condemned; and (3) the Nation is called upon to recognize the patriotism of fellow citizens from all ethnic, racial, and religious backgrounds. So if that is the basis of your fear, I fear you have nothing to fear but fear itself. But when the Civil Rights of one person is removed, the Civil rights of all are in jeopardy. Ever hear of this?geocities.com If this is the basis of your fear, I'm afraid you're far too late. You lost your civil rights over 60 years ago. To a liberal President. I am afraid to check out books from the library now. And what if I knew some Arab guy who knew a terrorist who called him about getting his house painted...and then I checked out a copy of "Dude, where's my country?" That would be enough to put me in jail right now under the "Patriot Act". Sorry to hear about your paranoid delusions. They do have drugs that can help with this, you know. But let's try a dose of fact. Here's the Patriot Act:epic.org Now would you care to show me what in there would get you jailed for reading a widely available book published by a major American publisher? What of all those people lining up to see "Fahrenheit 911"? Is the FBI going to do a mass round-up of theater audiences? Did you know this is still in effect?Amendment I Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. I believe the Supreme Court is hardly the lapdog your paranoid delusions lead you to believe and in an instance like that is going to remember and do its duty.
