Not for the sake of Israel. For the sake of reelection.

Ah, yes, that's why Bush went along with Wolfowitz, Perle and Krauthammer when they turned on the Jew-beams. But what is their motivation supposed to be?

"Every president since 1947 has made a futile attempt to help Israel negotiate peace. But no leadership has surfaced amongst the Palestinians that can make a binding agreement. President Bush realized his chances at negotiation were no better. He came to office imbued with one thought -- re-election. Bush felt tax cuts would hold his crowd together and spreading democracy in the Mideast to secure Israel would take the Jewish vote from the Democrats. "

If this is all that Hollins said , i have no problem. It is purely a political statement. It may even be right as far as bush political strategy goes. It is only critical of bush and if things had gone better in iraq, he would have gotten a bigger chunk of the jewish vote than he now will, although he has made some inroads.
And it says he couldnt make peace with the pals to get the jewish vote not because jews suck or are likudniks and greater israel guys, or disloyal but because of a lack of real pal leadership. Mike
