Bob, I see you are taking a more purist approach to CSS with the new site. I note that you are using it on the current site, but it seems to be a mixed bag, with a lot of HTML formatting. I have to assume that the current site evolved to CSS, while the new one was built on it. I've recently been updating my HTML skills, not having done a web site for several years. As such, I've had to update my library. (Maybe in the future I should provide this "insider information" so that people can load-up on Amazon stock before I place the order...) Here's one new book I can particular recommend: "HTML Utopia: Designing without Tables Using CSS". I also like the Eric Myer books, "Eric Myer on CSS" and "More Eric Meyer on CSS". These should help you squeeze out the last bit of HTML and inline formatting, as well as those danged tables. (Tables may be appropriate for the message lists in the discussion boards. Current thinking is "only use a table for displaying tabular data". (Imagine that! :) ) OK, this is tabular data. But... look at the discussion of "three column layout" on the "Designing without Tables" books. The concept can be expanded to more than 3 columns. The key advantage is that you get n fixed columns (which can be "fixed" based on pixels or percentage, so not really "fixed" if %) and one flexible column that takes whatever is left over. This might be nice for the subject field. You also might be interested in the discussion of "CSS drop-down menus" in "More Eric Meyer...". Drop-down menus. No JavaScript. I knew that would get you excited. :)
