Well, India is a creation of the British. But it seems to be a lot more integrated than say Iraq, or for that matter, even Pakistan.

As for exploiting the fault lines, we have to be aware that such moves can backfire and blow up in our own faces. I think the coming years in Iraq (when we will see a mishmash of civil wars, insurgencies and guerrilla warfare) will put paid to any "dreams" of exploiting such fault lines elsewhere in the world.
