Jewel, a legal requirement? Why? Documenting these things protects and benefits only the medical professional in the event of lawsuit, certainly not the patient. Once the medical professional has informed the patient and the patient has signed that this information has been received, end of story.

As for people of low IQ or people who are retarded, usually these people have guardians but not always. I shall have to investigate this one further.

Once a patient is accepted for treatment, physicians are precluded from abandoning that patient. If the physician is not comfortable treating a patient, said physician must arrange for other medical accommodation for that patient. Of course, the patient is always free to abandon the physician. - Holly
