Despite the upbeat East-West Mortgage radio commercials, the behind-the-scenes picture at the lending company and its parent, Worcester-based Commerce Bank & Trust Co., is less rosy, and now customers are being compensated for the companies’ mistakes.

I sense a serious economic sh!tstorm brewing right here.

Look at the software sector as a canary in the coalmine. Siebel came up way short, and Peoplesoft, et al are already warning. That tells me the stimulus is wearing off already, and companies are already cutting capex spending on discretional enterprise software projects and pulling in their horns.

Plus look at Walmart, they came in at the lower end of already lowered estimates, this does not indicate a strong confident consumer.

Then you add a slowing housing sector, uh oh, how are you going to refi to pay off the Lincoln Navigator and the credit cards? You may have to, gulp, earn actual cash? But how are you supposed to earn cash when your job is going to India and immigrant workers are forcing your salary lower?

Then they got us by the gnads with the price of oil. $2 bucks a gallon really hurts when most people are driving Escalades and Grand Cherokees to work. With a domestic terrorist threat looming and the war in Iraq FuBAR, it's only getting worse.

Then you got the election. Either way, Bush wins, he no longer has to pump for re-election. Kerry wins, he lets nature take it's course with the economy.

All in all, I wouldn't call for a bull market in Bonds, Stocks, or Real Estate at present moment.
