This is the best short sector around in an environment of rising rates and a slowing down of mortgage activity. There are some aggressive regional banks with extreme valuations that are excellent short candidates. Securitization assumptions are going to be challenged and the dirty laundry is going to be aired momentarily as the 10-Qs are published and assets are written down. Moreover, the plus-100 bps interest rate increase caught many by surprise that were not hedged and those losses are going to appear shortly as well. Some that have fessed up already got punished, such as NYB and Washington Mutual. More to come and it ain't gonna be purdy. Separately, have you seen this NOAA link.
