JDN,
It is funny, when it comes to religion -- Hindus have a caste system pretty deeply embedded in our society. While I was growing up I thought this could be reformed to make the religion a little bit more monolithic like Christianity. Little did I realize that Christians themselves also are divided ( albeit along different lines of belief ). Initially I thought it was a matter of Catholics and Protestants. Dig a bit deeper and you could see Greek Orthodox, Baptists, Adventist, Methodists and so on. Even to this day I am not too familiar with the differences between the practices and the reason why a Baptist has to be converted to Catholic and vice versa.

I finally concluded that ANY religion is beyond my comprehension and I just try to live the life the best and by being as good as I can by trying to incorporate the best aspects of all. So I think many non deeply religious people like me have their foundations in what is taught by major religions but cannot claim to know the ultimate truth.
