If you are old like me, you remember the smoke filled rooms and the party having a large say in who was selected. It was so cool to watch back then. Even Dick Daly cursing at Senator Ribicoff in 1968 who was up there talking about "gestapo tactics in the streets of chicago." That was a lip readers dream. Why did they go to this stupid system of primaries with such small unrepresentative segments of the electorate having so much say. Among the last presidents, we wouldnt have had carter, bush41?, clinton, or bush43. As candidates we certainly wouldnt have had gore or kerry. What would the old system have produced this year? There might have been talk of a dump bush movement. None of the folks who ran would have been selected. Might have gone to hillary. And in 2000 McCain would have gotten it. Better candidates and better potential presidents. mike
