mish, Bush can find Russia on a map because it is big. When he invaded Afghanistan, reporters asked him to spell it and he gave them a blank look for seven minutes. He learned his lesson. The next day he met with reporters and said "we are going to war with Iraq. And that's spelled I-R-A-K."

My note was about the European hypocrisy and not so much about US average citizen knowledge of Old European "so called cultural elite" mentality.

The sad think is that Russia was on it's way to full democracy IMHO and Putin is squelching this process - first Yukos and now private banks.

IMHO the Yukos affair was a clear stab to US energy needs - the timing was classic - Yukos close to a deal with Exxon Mobil - all of a sudden problems start.

Old Europe can not be happier seeing the US out of the energy picture in Russia and they moved fast to provide ample financing for a pipeline under the Baltic sea from Russia to Germany in the recent visit of Putin to Germany this week
