Bush Rejects Invitation to Speak at NAACP Convention, AP Says
July 8 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. President George W. Bush declined an invitation to speak to the annual convention of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the Associated Press reported, citing a news release from the organization.

Bush declined the invitation to speak to the nation's largest civil rights group for the fourth consecutive year he's been president, AP said, citing NAACP spokesman John White. He'll be the first president since Herbert Hoover not to appear at the convention during his presidency, the AP said.

The White House said Bush had a scheduling conflict during with convention's July 10-15 meeting dates, AP said. Bush spoke to the group as a presidential candidate in 2000, AP said.

Calls to the NAACP went unanswered.
