That post was made to clarify a point made by redfish, who was under the mistaken impression that Dole did not resign his seat. By the way, Dole was planning to run for another term in 1996 if he did not win the nomination. Dole's position was additionally complicated by the fact that he was the Minority Leader at the time. The Bush campaign has been forced into running negative ads by the vitriolic attacks by Kerry's surrogate organizations like moveon.org.
