Larry,

The USB 2.0 Flash drives are backward compatible and will work in USB 1.1 slots.

If you want to upgrade to USB 2.0 you can by a card that you can put into your computer. I'm certain Fry's will have both the Flash drives and the USB interface cards.

...USB 2.0 devices are backward compatible with USB 1.1 slots
but function at the 1.1 standard. I am not certain of that.

I have used current generation SanDisk Cruzer mini in both 1.1 and 2.0 slots.
