<<He said it was about oil, not Taiwan.>>

It's always about oil, and securing its supply.

He's right, this is just to remind China what happened to Japan back when they thought they could challenge America's stranglehold on their sea-lanes.

It's a rule Britannica sort of thing ... remember how that worked out? <g>

Here's the Sinclair opinion....

jsmineset.com

If this is the case, has Taiwan made any formal claims over ownership of the South China petroleum deposits? Claiming independence is one thing but grabbing energy resources is another. Either way, we're there for them. Rank imperialism/protection of democracy....it's all the same latex glove, fist-wise.

Richard Russell also thinks it's all about the oil...Think about it....trillions of pieces of eight, err, fiat for the taking...ghosts of pirates past be a'stirrin', mate.

So, here we are all Summer Pulse'd/bristling for a fight and no midair collision/forced landings to defend. Yet.
(Wonder how many of those PCR jack-up rigs are modified SAM sites?)

Get in the fight worms, PetroChina is STEALING YOUR OIL! There's rumor that they won't be accepting FRNs, either!
