As I recall, the discussion, at least the ones I participated in, were that subversives from other ME countries would likely get involved at some point. I recall most of us agreed it was likely This was an outcome never mentioned in the press, to my knowledge. I already cited a 2002 Atlantic article that failed to even put a Ba'athist guerilla war on the list of outcomes, let alone an Islamist one. One can see, that since those who opposed the war maintained that there never had been Ba'athist-Islamist cooperation, and never would be, that it was a difficult prediction for them to have made...
