Well, why go back to Clinton. I think even Kerry has shown that he can choose people who will fill the gaps in his qualities. I think there is a very big difference in styles between Kerry and Bush. If you disagree with Bush (e.g. Paul On'eill) you are out, if you disagree with Kerry, he is keen to listen to you and recruit you when he learns that it is the disagreement which is valuable to him instead of a agreement on issues.

Lizzie great words. I think it's the alphas vs the betas.
Bush wants to just get the heck out of his mess.
He's taken over 35% of his time in office to go back to Texas. He's a beta.

Clinton is definitely an alpha. Kerry damn sure is.
