Yes, as part of a series of post in which I took the position that you did not need to use culture to explain lying and distortions from people feeding "intelligence" to Washington -- you simply had to go to motive. Chalabi had motive to grossly mislead the United States, and he had friends in Washington who shared his goals and seemed willing to go along with what he was up to. Was Chalabi a "lying bastard" -- yes. Was it because he is of a middle eastern culture, I made no comment. By the way, I do not believe that Cheney is of middle eastern descent, but it appears he shared the same motive.
