I'm quite certain any temporary disruption of refinery output would have a big psychological impact. Capacity is very tight currently.

It reminds me of a very Los Angeles scene I saw today. A man, age 65 perhaps, was pushing his new Rolls Royce down a very busy La Cienega Blvd - backing up traffic for blocks.

Suffering an apparent malfunction or empty gas tank, this gentleman was not inclined to call for or pay a tow truck to aid his $220,000 automobile. You may draw your own conclusions as I can't shed any light on his motivations.

An America without sufficient oil, even for a short period, would suffer terrible disruptions.
