IMHO, Blair offering to resign shows he is a gentleman.

But as the US is the only superpower, if Bush were to resign, the US would lose "face" all over the world. That would be considered as a moral victory for the radical Islamists and they would then be emboldened to strike harder. So, even before the thought occurred to Bush to resign, Bush would have been advised to perish that thought.

Hhhmmm, I used to believe that Winston Churchill was the "last English gentleman" (in politics, that is).
