Oh, I am so sorry I forgot to denigrate France. France was also one of the powers that helped itself to the black gold (oil) of the Middle East soon after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire (~1920) right up to the late 1940s. If I am not mistaken, France created Syria and Lebanon out of the Middle East.

Yes, France had a lot to do with the Middle East for the sake of OIL.

By the way, in the eyes of many former colonials, their
erstwhile colonial masters were a bunch of extremely greedy and highly exploitative monsters. IMHO, of all the colonial masters, Britain did the most for their colonials. The Dutch were expelled from Indonesia, and the French from Indo China. Even today we still have the Commonwealth of Nations. This says quite a lot for Britain's diplomacy.
