Actually James, it's in the scripture that we do have in the bible. If you'll read it for content you'll see that scripture says in several places that all will be vivified, justified and reconciled back to God. People just refuse to believe it. During the 3rd or 4th century, the church of Rome began to drift away from teaching it. They thought they could control the masses better if they threatened them with eternal torment. When scripture became available to the public, the doctrine of eternal torture was so ingrained the people never questioned it. alan
