<And what is your recommendation?> Deal with 3 things: 1) root causes of hatred of America -- both the things that America is responsible for and can be changed and the things others are responsible that we need to influce; and 2) use our military capability with priority to threats to US national security -- and NOT for ideological pleasure. Nation building, if there is to be any, should be conducted as a strictly UN undertaking; and 3) treat anybody who contrives to deceive the United States into launching a war the same as we would a traitor.
