Vague laws about "security" and "terrorism" are the easiest wedge to get through the door - they play to people's fears and escape the constitutional restraints and balances that the Founding Fathers put in place EXACTLY to prevent arbitrary government behavior. People stand up and cheer until something is done that doesn't suit them, then they will squeal like a stuck pig. Too late - the security state already won. Wear the wrong hat in the wrong place and you're busted.
