I certainly don't think weed is harmless. But, when stacked up against other drugs both legal and illegal, it's got to be one of the least harmful drugs out there. As far as I know, there has never been a documented death due to a marijuana overdose. Weed certainly has some log term health effects like you pointed out. But, it's societal and accute affects are far less of a problem that what is caused by a legal drug like alcohol. People do die of alcohol poisoning. People get very violent when intoxicated by alcohol. Alcohol leads to a lot of violence and mayhem. Stoners tend to keep to themselves and are quiet while being affected by the drug. Sure, there is some violence associated with the marijuana trade, but that's because it's illegal and criminals who trade drugs are violent, not because weed makes them violent.
