I think you have big problems either way. I'm not advocating drug use. I've had periods in my life in which I induldged a bit too much in pot and alcohol. I'm just interested in seeing sensible policies implemented.

I'm not even going to touch herion legalization, although it is working in parts of Europe, addicts get their herion for free and just about all the public annoyances associted with herion addiction have gone away. We'll leave that one for another day.

But, I would like to see marijuana treated sensibly. Alcohol is much more socially disprutive, addictive, and dangerous substance than marijuana, simple as that. The health and social justifications for making alcohol illegal are much stronger than the reasons for keeping marijuana illegal.

I've read accounts where cops spend half their shift prosecuting a marjuana possession charge. What kind of priorities are those? If we want to keep marijuana illegal, we should have cops ticket people caught with marijuana and let them continue doing their jobs, protecting us from truly dangerous people. There's also no reason why the federal government has to interfere with state governments who want to allow their citizens to use medical marijuana. It's a states rights issue. There are some rediculous stories in which grandmas smoking pot for glaucoma are arrested by gung ho cops. We need to reconsider our priorities in the War On Drugs.
