The argument that communism was inherently unstable and doomed to stagnation and failure no matter what we did hardly seems liberal to me.

This inherent lack of long term viability of Communism always reminds me of the old adage that "in the long run we're all dead". Even with the pressure kept up during the cold war which caused so many resources (on both sides) to be diverted to military uses, as well as such notable clownery as lysenkoism gravely harming their agriculture, it took literally generations to come to an end of the Soviet empire.

But your remarks on this and other subjects have been very interesting and often thought provoking.
