The following is a cautionary tale on absentee voting and should be verified. It is scary.

Re voting absentee: Here is a reported problem in Florida from the 2002 election. it needs careful investigation. At least one GOP candidate for State Rep.(reelection). sent out thousands of absentee ballots to his area with a return address of Election Supervisor and the street address of the GOP State rep. Then this reps staff went through the received absentee ballots and threw out those who had voted Dem in the past. They then sent on the rest of the ballots to the right address without ever opening one but getting rid of most of the probable democratic votes. The name Election Supervisor is close but not the same as the official Supervisor of Elections. It is not illegal in florida to "bundle" absentee ballots and each ballot received at the official polling places can still be verified. It is just that the GOP rep threw out lots of Dem ballots. --I hear that this may have happened in another Florida campaign as well. I think a review of absentee balloting in Fla shows a skew to GOP much greater than it should be in some areas. _PS I realize that both parties will try and steal votes, but it seems that the GOP has refined their techniques more completely than the Dems.

The ballots that go directly to the Official Elections people will be OK, just be careful.
