"A lot of Americans think it's a God given right to drive ridiculous gas guzzlers ..." Somebody wrote a letter to the editor to my local paper totally incensed because a hybrid was in the "fast lane" of I-5 doing the speed limit +2.5, with a driver sporting a "smug look." This writer was nearly ballistic, and prided himself on his SUV driving behavior. If it had been a cement truck in the left lane blocking his SUV speeding habit, he would have just gone around without another thought, but to have an environmentally friendly (or friendlier) car in that lane, that was just too much to take!
