Sonus Networks Says It Has Received Formal Order of Private Investigation From the SEC

CHELMSFORD, Mass. (AP) -- Sonus Networks Inc. said Tuesday it had received a formal order of private investigation from the Securities and Exchange Commission.
The company, a provider of voice over Internet protocol, also said the Nadaq Stock Market had further extended the company's deadline to July 19 to file its financial reports for fiscal 2003 and first quarter 2004.

In February, Sonus notified the SEC of the company's independent investigation following the delay of its fourth-quarter and full-year filings. The SEC has informally investigated.

Representatives from the company couldn't be immediately reached to comment on the reason of its filing delay and the details of the SEC investigations.

Sonus shares closed down 39 cents at $4.17 in regular trading on the Nasdaq. In extended hours trading, it rose 3 cents.
