If that's the case, then, why didn't they do just that, given that they told everyone on the last conference call that growing inventory wouldn't be an issue in Q2?

All they have to do is cut back on wafer starts and the inventory problem is solved unless binsplits play a role.

If they cut back on wafer starts, it'll hurt gross margins. But your guess about binsplits is the worst possible thing that could happen. Performance sells at exponential prices, if & when you can do it.
