The Republicans raised the issue in the Senate. This does not change the fact that the timing of this issue did not come from Republicans. The republicans are trying to deal with an issue that was raised by local officials and activist judges. I'm sure they would have accepted a delay of the whole issue but if the Republicans didn't try to get an amendment passed or even argue their case the issue doesn't go away, instead you have one side pushing its agenda unencumbered by the opposing viewpoint.

Apparently you think "our current problems" should keep conservatives from any political activism but its just fine if liberals try to change things.
