Ted, I've been around a lot of the places you mentioned, and it's not nearly as bad as you make it out to be. If you really want a basis of comparison, try New York City. America's cultural capital, yet conditions there would make Californians turn up their noses. Literally. And that's even after Rudy Giuliani saved the city from Dinkins and created the NY renaissance of the 90's. But I'm not surprised you wanted out of SoCal.
