In short, Kerry wants it both ways. What good is it to say, "I'm against something," but have none of your actions support any of your stated beliefs? This isn't "nuance," but the mark of a flipper.

Well said.

This is one reason Jesse Helms was returned to the senate so many times in NC. Like him or not, you always knew what he stood for. With Kerry (and other poll watching libs) even if you manage to figure out what they are "for", you have no idea if they will act on it or not. It depends on the poll of the time.

Ten,

No it's not. It's VERY conservative in nature.

Drivers licenses are a states issue, not a federal issue. And frankly, it's one of my favorite parts of my conservative side. The 50 states may make bad laws, and they may make good laws, but eventually they will show us the way. And maybe a law for one state isn't good for another, so we have some divergence.

But the whole idea is local politics, not the federal government dicatating policy. That's messy democracy. It's THE fundamental conservative principle. And even though Kerry can't seem to articulate it, it's what he's saying wrt driver licenses.

Bush is the opposite. He's a federalist. He's a fiscal liberal. He's a nation builder.

I'm not sure how or when the national parties switched, but the Democrats are far more conservative than the Republicans. And the Neo's are a fringe group that wants the "New American Century", or to rule the world. You've got to forget the rhetoric and look at the actions. Who was more traditionally conservative, Clinton or Bush? Honest?

Incremental progress is what has made this country and this world a better place for all of us. Think of the changes since WW2. Bush and the neo's are trying to turn that on it's head, to make radical changes. A couple of definitions of conservative:

*Favoring traditional views and values; tending to oppose change.
*Moderate; cautious: a conservative estimate.

It's really time for folks to review what's really going on, and igrore the crap that is floating around out there as intellectual opinion on both sides. Both sides are so steeped in their own dogma that fuzzy pep rally slogans are being mistaken for reality.

I don't care who anyone votes for. But if you vote for Bush, don't kid yourself that you are voting for a conservative. And if you vote for Kerry, don't kid yourself that you are voting for a liberal.

John

In most circumstances, I am against abortion in my own life but I would never deny others the right. Seeing things only in black and white is not a strength.
